Installation of the largest UV liner in the UK
For the rehabilitation of a storm sewer in Corby (Northamptonshire, UK), the national industry leader for drainage and wastewater maintenance installed its largest UV liner to date. This has a length of 42 meters and is thus the longest UV-CIPP liner ever installed in the UK.
The Lanes Group was commissioned by the construction company Urban & Civic. On August 17, 2022, a team of 10 successfully completed the installation. The long length of the pipe liner, as well as the heatwave, made the 12-month project a demanding challenge for all involved.
The construction project was located in the immediate vicinity of a new development area. As a result, high safety measures were particularly critical during implementation for all parties involved. Among other things, road closures and traffic diversion to an adjacent road were necessary.
Use of the IMPREG Liner GL16 DN 1800
Our world-renowned IMPREG Liner GL16. was selected for this efficient and modern pipe-lining solution (NO-Dig). The most significant facts & figures about the IMPREG Liner GL16 DN 1800 used in cooperation with ProKASRO:
- Service life of the pipe liner of 100 years
- Required wall thickness of the GL16 liner of 15.5mm
- IMPREG liner without peroxide
- Support from ProKASRO with UV system
- Three Power light cores 3 x 6 x 2,000 Watt lamps (36,000 Watt total)
- Curing speed 500 – 700mm per minute (total time 70 minutes)
.
For the GL16 liner installation, a civil engineering contractor excavated two 3-meter diameter concrete chambers under the road. The installation was completed on 17 August 2022, after an 18 hour operation, which included pulling in the liner with a 10-ton winch.
“Very challenging expansion project was a complete success because everyone involved pulled together as a team. The partnership of the Lanes sewer rehabilitation department with IMPREG and ProKASRO worked extremely well.” Gary Carey – Lanes Lining Supervisor
“This is the largest diameter UV liner we have supplied to a UK company. We weren’t aware of such a large liner ever having been installed in the UK. This shows what can be achieved with UV CIPP when you combine Lanes’ advances in manufacturing and UV lining systems and installation experience as a contractor.” Jack Tallbott – IMPREG Technical Sales UK
Trenchless Works Report
In the most recent issue of the trade magazine Trenchless Works, there is an article about the largest UV liner installation in the UK (issue 09/2022). The four-page project report (pages 48-51) describes the project progress in detail, the challenging hurdles, and provides many technical facts & figures.
Here is another example of how IMPREG contributed to a successful outcome. We are very pleased that this challenging project was realized in such a smooth and successful manner.

Thanks to all involved
Gary Carey visited our production site in Ammerbuch one month later. With him were Ben Carter (IMPREG Warehouse Manager UK) and Jack Talbott (Technical Sales UK).
Gary Carey was given a tour of our IMPREGLiner production halls and was visibly impressed.
We would also like to thank our customers and all those involved for the trust placed in us and the excellent cooperation! As with the first GRP pipe liner DN 2000 worldwide, this project in the UK is also a very special one for the entire IMPREG Group!
